July 2014

Alex Reyes continues to be an important member of the STM team, writes Melissa Talbett, Administrator. For three years, he has made himself available to work anytime we need him as our housekeeper. Alex works at a rigorous pace each and every day. Alex has officially been our permanent Housekeeper at STM since February 2014 and the building has never been cleaner. I would welcome any DOH inspector into any resident room at anytime!!! Alex is cleaning all of our 24 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms at least three times weekly! His attention to detail and compassion and respect for our residents makes him exceptional at his job. In a lot of ways, Alex is our eyes and ears seeing and hearing things that may go unnoticed if he wasn't in the resident rooms so often.  On July 2nd, Alex assisted Melissa with performing the Heimlich Maneuver on a resident that was choking so badly that he was turning blue. Alex ran to my side without hesitation and began assisting me with a procedure that neither of us thought we would ever have to do. For what seemed like hours, we worked as a team until our resident was able to pass the lodged items from his throat. Alex remained calm and cool not showing his stress for a single second during our crisis. Our resident was extremely grateful for our assistance that day, but Alex became a hero to me. I couldn't have done it without him and will be eternally grateful for his help that afternoon. Without him the situation could have had a very different ending.  Thanks for everything that you do each and every day, Alex. You are a special and much appreciated employee. Congratulations to Alex!
