We're looking for two staff members to become Mental Health First Aid TRAINERS!
What is Mental Health First Aid? Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives individuals the skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may have a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. What is the role of the Mental Health First Aid TRAINER? Instructors train people in their communities in Mental Health First Aid. Certified instructors are required to teach the course at least three times per year. Instructors teach from a national curriculum, tailor discussions to their participants and compile a list of local resources for help.
The primary role of instructors is to teach the Mental Health First Aid course. When courses are offered instructors must teach the full 8-hour course with fidelity to the core program model and key messages. Each instructor has a set of materials to help guide them through course facilitation. For additional information please see Instructor Candidate Commitment Form and Become an Instructor web page.
When and where is the training held? The training will be held November 7th to 11th in Syracuse, NY. Mental Health First Aid USA trainer instructors will conduct the training.
Once certified you will train staff members from STEL and other organizations. Additionally, you may train students from local colleges and other community members.
Who will pay for the training? STEL, Inc. pay for the training tuition, lodging, meals and travel.
